Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennet joined with Executive Support For Transport, Roger Jones and all three of Salfords MP's in writing a joint letter to Chris Grayling (Secretary of State) outlining the severe problems being experienced by rail travellers across Salford. (found below).
Rail users have been suffering since a new timetable was implemented last week which has caused huge frustrations to members of the public who have endured huge delays, cancellations to services and an increase in overcrowding on some services, as can be expected, there has been a huge increase in complaints about what some are calling a substandard and shambolic service.
Today Salfords political force came out to back calls by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham for the government to step in and end the daily misery being caused, with up to 60 services being cancelled this morning (Wednesday) alone and rail union RMT announcing 3 days of strikes in June in the 19th, 21st and 23rd.
Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News has launched a petition which we fully support, calling for the government to step in and end the rail chaos a well as make more investment in Northern rail services.
The government's promise of a Northern Power House looks to be going off the tracks.
